The reactive clay across the tablelands swells after rain and shrinks back hard through a dry spell, and a slab poured without allowing for that movement cracks along its own lines rather than the ones you cut. Deeper excavation, a properly compacted granular base, thicker slab, correctly lapped reinforcement and joints at sensible spacing are what keep a driveway flat at Glenvale, Wilsonton or Kearneys Spring. Blocks on shallower basalt closer to the Range behave quite differently, which is why the specification should follow the ground rather than a standard detail.
Sometimes. Resurfacing needs a stable slab that is genuinely sound underneath. Widespread cracking, panels that have dropped, or movement caused by drainage or ground problems generally mean section replacement or a full rebuild is the better spend.
Not exactly. Existing concrete changes colour and texture with age, sun and weather, so an exact match is unrealistic. Thoughtful joint placement, or a deliberate contrasting finish, generally makes an addition look intentional rather than patched.

Coloured, stamped, stencil and exposed aggregate surfaces all benefit from a compatible sealer. On the Downs it does two useful jobs: it slows the moisture movement in and out of the surface that winter frost turns into edge damage, and it keeps UV at 700 metres from flattening the colour. The product and the recoating interval should suit the concrete and how exposed it is.
It depends on the property and the scope, particularly where work affects a crossover, the road reserve, drainage, an overland flow path, an easement or a body corporate common area. Toowoomba Regional Council sets the driveway crossover standard across most of our service area, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council applying at Withcott and further down the Range.
