Top Camp Concrete Driveways

Top Camp is rural-residential country on the southern edge of the tableland, with acreage blocks, homes set well back from the road and the mix of rural infrastructure that goes with them. The concrete work here is defined by scale and by load. Access driveways are long, frequently running a hundred metres or more from the road to the house, and they typically have to serve a shed, a workshop or machinery as well as domestic vehicles, which changes the specification substantially. Slab thickness, mix strength and reinforcement all follow from the heaviest thing that will use the surface, and a driveway built to domestic standards will not survive a loaded trailer or a truck. Edge condition matters more on acreage than in suburbia: without a kerb, a garden bed or a compacted shoulder holding it, the edge of a long driveway sitting in wet reactive soil breaks down progressively from the sides inward. Drainage over largely flat ground has to be created and directed deliberately, including keeping water away from shed floors and off the driveway shoulders, and where a run crosses a watercourse or a table drain a culvert or crossing needs planning. The soil is deep reactive black clay, giving significant seasonal movement, and exposure at this altitude means genuine winter frosts, which is a real consideration for pour timing and curing.
